AR-15 Excellence. Stag Arms is known for its mil-spec quality rifles. The black guns that roll off the company's assembly line are engineered to perform in defensive, hunting and competitive situations.

Stag Arms is actually the "house brand" for Continental Machine & Tool (CMT), who has long worked as a sub-contractor making a wide range of parts for powerhouse AR-15 firms that are held in high regard. CMT has been in the game for many decades and they certainly know what they're doing.

For starters, the upper and lower receivers are as good as anyone's. They are forged from durable, lightweight, aircraft grade 7075-T6 aluminum alloy. The receivers are then Type III hard coat anodized and dry film lubed per military spec to provide wear and corrosion resistance. All pins-- including the hammer, trigger, pivot and takedown are mil-spec.

At the heart of the Stag Arms Model 2 design is a direct gas impingement system. Gas is tapped from the barrel as the bullet passes by the port located above the rifle's front sight base. The gas then rushes into the port and down a gas tube located above the barrel and into the upper receiver.

From there, the gas tube funnels into the bolt carrier. This gas system unlocks the bolt and begins the cycling process, but only after the bullet has exited the barrel. Direct impingement has several advantages over gas piston systems. For semi- automatic rifles with a barrel length of 16" or greater, impingement AR-15s are lighter, easier to free float the barrel, and much less expensive to manufacture.

A mil-spec 6- position collapsible stock allows the shooter to adjust length of pull to their personal preference, while the carbine length handguard provides steady handling. A standard carbine buffer and spring are included. The Stag Arms Model 2 bolt has been magnetic particle inspected, shot peened and pressure tested to ensure that it's structurally sound and will not fail.

Similarly, the gas key has been properly staked to the bolt carrier. An ergonomic design makes the charging handle, safety selector, magazine release and bolt catch easy to access. The mil-spec single stage, service grade trigger is positive and breaks cleanly at 5-8 pounds.

The government profile 16.1" 4140 chrome moly steel button rifled barrel is then chrome lined to make it less susceptible to fouling, reduce corrosion, enhance feeding and increase barrel life. The 1:9" twist rate is fast enough to stabilize heavy bullets like the 69gr match round, while still capable of accurately firing standard 55gr ball ammo.

The Stag Arms Model 2 is chambered for 5.56 NATO cartridges , which allows you to safely fire both full power 5.56 or lower powered .223 rounds interchangeably without adjustment to the gas system. Even though M4 feed ramps are not included, the 45- degree standard cut feed ramp into the rifle's breach has proven itself very reliable when feeding a wide range of ammo..

The rifle weighs in at just 6.5 pounds and is a fast handling carbine. It includes one 30- round mil-spec type magazine. All steel parts wear a mil- spec manganese phosphate finish, including the barrel. Build quality is excellent and there is virtually no play between the upper and lower receiver.

A flip-up rear sight that is easily removable for the mounting of optics on the Picatinny receiver rail. The integral rear "F" marked A2 sight is adjustable for windage. Unlike the rear sight, the A2 front sight post is fixed and adjustable for elevation.

In the rare event a round fails to go into battery, the rifle is equipped with a forward assist. Similarly, a spring loaded receiver dust cover is designed to keep out dirt and other debris from entering the action, but instantly opens after the first shot.

For repair, the gun is backed by a 1- year warranty. Overall, the Stag Arms Model 2 is an affordable, well built mil- spec AR-15 rifle designed for many years of reliable service.
