Sig Sauer P226 Legion DA/SA 9mm start at Champion Firearms:
Service Auto Supreme. The Sig Sauer P226 is probably the best known for being used by specialist units including the SAS, not to mention many British Army units and the US Navy SEALs. It is a double-action semi-automatic pistol, originally chambered for the universal 9mm caliber. Mechanically speaking, there have been a number of significant improvements to the Sig Sauer P226 over the years.
Original contract models were supplied with phosphate or nickel-plated internal parts. The P226 started out utilizing a two-piece breech-block roll-pin system, but now incorporates a solid stainless steel pin. In 1996, once production shifted from Germany to the U.S.A., Sig Sauer started manufacturing the P226 with a slide machined from stainless steel bar stock.
These slides were much stronger, heavier duty and allowed the pistol to be chambered in the more powerful cartridges. In addition, the slide velocity and recoil were tamed by the increased mass of the CNC machined slide. This is a short-recoil operated pistol that has a traditional double action/single action (DA/SA) firing system.
It carries a stainless steel slide that sits atop a machined, 7075-T6 lightweight aluminum frame which is gray hard-coated over anodizing. The frame of the Legion features many upgrades including a reduced and contoured beavertail, undercut trigger guard, enhanced checkering of the front strap and under the trigger guard. The slide also houses an improved, large external extractor positioned at the right rear of the ejection port. A passive firing pin safety lies hidden within the slide, and 10 diagonal rear-charging grooves enable positive loading and unloading.
A rounded accessory rail can be found on the dust cover, which allows the user to quickly install lights and lasers. The P226 features gray G10 grips with the Legion logo embedded into the side, along with indexing points for a proper control. These thinner stippled polymer grips provide a secure hold while firing the pistol.
To safely lower a raised hammer on the P226, shooters can easily employ a user friendly decocking lever located on the frame. Unlike many other DA/SA pistols, Sig Sauer positions the hammer decocking lever where it can be depressed with the right thumb, without having to change your grip on the pistol. The low profile slide stop is located just above the decocking lever, and can be manipulated easily.
Several built-in safety features make it suitable for carry. The hammer is blocked from contacting the firing pin if dropped. It has a rebounding hammer design, and is blocked from moving forward unless the trigger is held to the rear. Also, the firing pin block prevents the firing pin from moving forward unless the trigger is held to the rear.
The Sig Sauer P226 Legion weighs in at 34.0 ounces and has a gray Nitron slide that wears the Legion logo on the top and is extremely corrosion plus wear resistant. In case you are unfamiliar with Nitron, this is Sig's term for the Ionbond finish that is administered at a specialty coating company's third party facility. Ionbond is a firearms finish that is applied through a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) process. This involves the depositing of diamond-like carbon coatings via a vacuum, and results in a finish that will provide years of protection against wear while retaining a nice appearance.
With a 4.4" barrel and a high capacity fifteen round magazine, the P226 Legion also has a Grayguns intermediate reach, adjustable double action trigger pull of around 10lbs., where single action subsequently resets to just 4.4lbs. The trigger system is the SRT style, which means short reset trigger. A set of Sig Sauer Electro-optics X-Ray High Visibility Day/Night sights sit on top of the slide, are highly visible, easy to use and track well.
For service or repair, the pistol is backed by a manufacturers lifetime warranty. Overall, the Sig Sauer P226 Legion is accurate, dependable, safe, simple to operate and is made here in the U.S.A.
