Low prices on the
Sig Sauer SP2022 w/ Night Sights 9mm start at Champion Firearms:
User Firendly & Highly Accurate. The Sig Sauer SP2022 is a polymer frame gun very similar in size to the model P229, but for sells for roughly half the price. In fact, the grip length, fire controls, barrel length and overall presentation are almost identical to the highly touted P229 pistol.
Sig Sauer first entered the "polymer revolution" with its SIG PRO series of pistols back in the 1990's, which combined a stainless steel slide with the company's "Nitron" finish on a polymer frame. This pistol was one of the first to feature interchangeable grips that could be removed by simply depressing a catch located at the rear of the magazine well.
With the popularity of the design increasing among U.S. law enforcement agencies, Sig Sauer introduced a new improved version of the SIG PRO that would later be re-dubbed the "SP2022". In 2003, France's Gendarmerie Nationale placed an order for 270,000 pistols, replacing that country's licensed copies of the Beretta 92FS. The following year, the U.S. Army's Tank & Armaments Command placed an order for 5,000 SP2022 pistols.
One of the biggest improvements of the SP2022 over its predecessor is the decocker. This new lever is shorter and quicker than the old version. The magazine release was also redesigned into a Benelli style triangular shape, instead of the classical round pattern.
Perhaps the most notable feature upgrade of the SP2022 is that the frame now includes a standard-type rounded accessory rail to accept tactical lights or laser sighting systems, instead of the dysfunctional Euro- rail system seen on the SIG PRO. Unlike many other DA/SA pistols, Sig Sauer positions the hammer decocking lever where it can be depressed with the right thumb, without having to change your grip on the pistol.
The slide stop is located just above the decocking lever, is extended, can be manipulated easily, and runs all the way past the trigger for maximum leverage for releasing the slide. This same pin holds the slide stop in place, keeping the barrel link and the slide together.
The slide's naturally high profile orientation allows a shooter to more easily load the chamber, while also greatly reducing the probability of getting "slide bite". Wrap around grip stippling provides a firm grasp on the pistol during recoil, while greatly increasing control.
In essence, the SP2022 uses a 1911-like system to hold the pistol together and also disassembles similar to the 1911; the slide stop comes out when you match up the right holes. The chassis is made of steel, as are the slide rails that are set into the grip. A loaded chamber indicator is located on top of the slide that allows for tactile ready status confirmation, even in low light conditions.
The Sig Sauer SP2022 weighs in at 29.0 ounces and has a black Nitron slide that is extremely corrosion plus wear resistant. In case you are unfamiliar with Nitron, this is Sig's term for the Ionbond finish that is administered at a specialty coating company's third party facility.
Ionbond is a firearms finish that is applied through a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) process. This involves the depositing of diamond-like carbon coatings via a vacuum, and results in a finish that will provide years of protection against wear while retaining a nice appearance.
With a 3.9" barrel and a high capacity fifteen round magazine, the SP2022 has a double action trigger pull of around 10lbs., where single action subsequently resets to just 4.4lbs. A set of SIGLITE (3- dot Tritium) night sights sit on top of the slide, are highly visible, easy to use and track well. The pistol includes a high capacity 15- round magazine that has a finger groove extension located on the baseplate for added control.
For warranty or repair, the pistol is backed by a manufacturers lifetime warranty. Overall, the Sig Sauer SP2022 is affordable, accurate, dependable, safe, simple to operate and is made here in the U.S.A.
