Low prices on the
Sig Sauer M11-A1 Desert 9mm start at Champion Firearms:
Service Grade SIG. In the vast U.S. military establishment, there is a considerable need for handguns for people working in civilian clothes. Therefore, in 1988, military-marked and -finished Sig Sauer P228s went into U.S. service officially designated as the "M11" pistol. Military investigators in Army, Navy and Air Force units, as well as Department of Defense personnel, use this excellent handgun.
Once a pistol has achieved such status, it may be ordered, with proper justification, by any element of the Department of Defense. Use of the M11 (P228) is growing to include Naval aviators and others, who have an obvious need for compact survival equipment. In appearance, the M11-A1 is almost exactly the same gun as the G.I. M11. The markings are different, but the sights, controls and handling of the pistol are the same.
The Sig Sauer M11-A1 Desert is a short-recoil operated pistol that has a double action/single action (DA/SA) firing system. It carries a steel slide that sits atop a machined, 7075-T6 lightweight aluminum frame which is flat dark earth hard-coated over anodizing. The slide also houses an improved, large external extractor positioned at the right rear of the ejection port. A passive firing pin safety lies hidden within the slide, and 10 diagonal rear-charging grooves enable positive loading and unloading. The frontstrap features fine horizontal grooving.
The M11-A1 features stippled polymer grips that provide a secure hold while firing the pistol. To safely lower a raised hammer on the M11-A1, shooters can easily employ a user friendly decocking lever located on the frame. Unlike many other DA/SA pistols, Sig Sauer positions the hammer decocking lever where it can be depressed with the right thumb, without having to change your grip on the pistol.
The slide stop is located just above the decocking lever, and can be manipulated easily. The M11-A1 has several built-in safety features that make it suitable for concealed carry. The hammer is blocked from contacting the firing pin if dropped. It is a rebounding design, and is blocked from moving forward unless the trigger is held to the rear. Also, the firing pin block prevents the firing pin from moving forward unless the trigger is held to the rear.
This Sig Sauer M11-A1 Desert weighs in at 32.0 ounces and has a flat dark earth coated slide that is extremely corrosion plus wear resistant. The pistol also features corrosion resistant internal parts. With a 3.9" barrel and a high capacity fifteen round magazine, the M11-A1 has a double action trigger pull of around 10lbs., where single action subsequently resets to just 4.4lbs.
The trigger system is the SRT style, which means short reset trigger. A set of SIGLITE night sights sit on top of the slide, are highly visible, easy to use and track well. Overall, the Sig Sauer M11-A1 is an accurate, safe and reliable combat proven pistol made here in the U.S.A.
