Sig Sauer 1911 Emperor Scorpion .45ACP start at Champion Firearms:
Recreating A Legend. When the average American shooter sits down and begins to contemplate brand name firearms, few manufacturers are as instantly recognizable and associated with such extremely high quality products as Sig Sauer. There can be little doubt that this Swiss based company has managed to engineer some of the finest guns to ever hit the market.
What's not so clear, however, is how a company made internationally famous for its double action pistols ended up producing an American classic like the 1911. The 1911 has a proven track record, both on the battlefield and on the streets, with is a legacy of excellence that dates back well over a hundred years.
It's slim profile wrapped around the potent .45ACP cartridge make it the ultimate concealed carry and self- defense handgun. It was only a matter of time before these two shooting industry legends would unite to form a synergy of purpose-- one of the world's premier gun makers producing an affordable, high quality version of history's most storied fighting pistol.
Sig Sauer 1911's are distinctive in appearance. With an attractive and unique square shaped stainless steel slide that features raised panels machined into the side flats, where the flats themselves extend upward more than typically seen on any other 1911. The ergonomics and handling characteristics are quickly appreciated on the Emperor Scorpion, which makes the user understand why this design is so revered among shooting enthusiasts and professionals alike.
Even under the induced stress of drawing from concealment, the beavertail grip safety and manual thumb safety rapidly and positively disengage when called upon. Make no mistake, this is a full-size tactical pistol. An integrated accessory rail provides attachment points for light and/or laser, should the shooter so desire.
Many performance enhancing features have been added to the Sig Sauer 1911 Emperor Scorpion. The upper part of the high ride beavertail grip safety has been scalloped to accommodate the skeletonized low mass hammer. This ensures a higher grip for increased control, while significantly reducing felt recoil. To ensure faster disengagement of the grip safety, a raised lower pad located on the beavertail indexes consistently with the web of a shooter's hand.
Front strap and rear mainspring housing grooves, when combined with the Hogue G10 laminated Magwell grip set with Piranha texturing, provide a firm grasp in the hand and greater overall control when firing. The advanced grip design has an integrated magazine well extension that promotes rapid reloads.
An undercut frame notch located just below the area where the trigger guard meets the grip frame works together with the high ride beavertail safety to maintain a high hand placement along the pistol's bore axis. The aluminum trigger has almost no curve at its face, has an adjustable overtravel stop, but breaks smooth and crisp at 5- pounds.
Low profile Novak style SIGLITE (3- dot Tritium) night sights ride on top of the slide, are highly visible, and acquires their target well. A 5.0-inch full length stainless steel barrel with matched bushing help contribute to a tight lock-up. The full length guide rod improves reliability and accuracy.
Unlike other small 1911's, the Sig Sauer Emperor Scorpion does not require special tools to disassemble the pistol. One of the great engineering feats of this handgun is the smooth, yet tight fit between slide, frame, link, barrel and guide rod system. By all accounts, this little gun is a tack driver and can directly attribute its high performance potential to the craftsmanship that was built into the design.
The pistol weighs in at a hefty 41.6 ounces unloaded and is shipped with a pair of eight round magazines. Front and rear cocking serrations have been beveled and rounded to provide a smooth presentation, and will not abrade skin or clothing during carry or extended handling-- yet allow the user to aggressively charge the slide during a tactical reload.
The custom flat dark earth nitron finish is extremely corrosion plus wear resistant. In case you are unfamiliar with Nitron, this is Sig's term for the Ionbond finish that is administered at a specialty coating company's third party facility. Ionbond
is a firearms finish that is applied through a Physical Vapor
Deposition (PVD) process. This involves the depositing of diamond-like
carbon coatings via a vacuum, and results in a finish that will provide
years of protection against wear while retaining a nice appearance.
For repair, the pistol is backed by the company's lifetime warranty. Overall, the Sig Sauer 1911 Emperor Scorpion is a reliable, heavy-duty, accurate, full featured 1911 fighting pistol designed for years or reliable service.
