Frequently Asked Prerequisite Questions Print E-mail

Q: If I am pregnant or nursing, should I take this class?

A: Not unless you plan to wear a respirator to prevent lead inhalation. Although some students have done this in the past, a respirator mask can be distracting. This is the only safe method (that we can think about) to prevent potential lead exposure).

Q: Can I use hand- loaded ammunition for range qualification?

A: No, the state mandates that only the use of factory ammunition be used during range qualification.

Q: Are there any restrictions with respect to the type of ammunition that may be used on your range?

A: Yes, because we're an indoor range, all ammunition must be of the "unleaded" variety. In other words, it must be copper jacketed. Lead round nose ammunition is prohibited. Hint: the projectile portion of copper jacketed ammunition will appear gold colored in appearance, while lead round nose ammunition will appear darkish gray in color.

Q: Can I use a laser sight or red dot sight for range qualification?

A: No, the state prohibits optical/ laser aiming devices for range qualification.

Q: May I sit down to qualify?

A: Of course, our facility is designed to accommodate folks with physical disabilities. If you would like to sit down in a chair while shooting, please feel free to ask one of the range officers before qualification begins- they will be happy to furnish a seat. In addition, we are 100% ADA compliant.
