Q: How long do I have after taking your course to send the licensing fee to the state and apply for my license?
A: For renewals, you only have six months. New applicants have two years. We recommend that you apply as soon as possible to avoid "CHL procrastinitis" (putting it off so long you have to take the class all over again).
Q: Once I complete your course, may I immediately begin to carry my handgun concealed?
A: No! Special Note: you will not be able to legally carry a concealed handgun until you receive the license from the DPS. In other words, the class is a certification process. Once "certified" you will send the TR100 course certificate, along with the completed application packet and licensing fee, to the DPS.
Q: If I am "active reserve", do I still qualify for a reduction in fees?
A: Yes
Q: What is the definition of a "senior citizen"?
A: 60 years of age or older
Q: If I am a combination of renewal, senior citizen and active military, what is my licensing fee?
A: Still $35.00
Q: What is the definition of "indigent"?
A: Not more than the established level of income set forth in the "Federal Poverty Guidelines"
Q: If I am retired military, do I still qualify for the reduction of fees?
A: No, not that we're aware of.
